San Antonio Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Adrian Bustillos thanked district employees for what he described as a strong start to the 2026-27 school year and emphasized the importance of keeping students at the center of daily decisions.
In a message shared after Labor Day, Bustillos recognized educators and staff for creating opportunities for students to learn and grow. He said their work is helping students begin the year with the high expectations needed for success.
The district welcomed Dr. Xochitl Rodriguez in August. She serves as Deputy Superintendent of Teaching, Learning and Leadership and is a member of Bustillos’ Core Team. Her work, together with district staff, is intended to keep district decisions focused on student success.
Bustillos also said district leaders will spend more time on campuses and less time at Central Office. The superintendent and the district’s Core Team have been visiting schools each week to observe classroom and campus work and share that work with the broader community.
The superintendent called for a continued sense of urgency and purpose, highlighting the importance of instruction, leadership development, consistency and follow-through. The district’s stated goals are to improve student outcomes and help every student reach their full potential.
The message also recognized the role of front-office staff in serving families. Bustillos thanked employees for welcoming parents and helping them navigate questions and concerns with patience and care. He said welcoming schools can strengthen family trust and help students feel supported and valued.
Bustillos noted that student success includes more than academic achievement. Relationships, support and a sense of community also help students build confidence and reach their goals, he said.
He closed by thanking staff for serving students, families and one another, and by emphasizing the district’s commitment to accelerating achievement, expanding opportunities and helping every student succeed.
