Centro de Artes Gallery is marking 10 years under the oversight of the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture with two upcoming free events at 101 South Santa Rosa.
The gallery, located in the pink-and-blue building welcoming visitors to Historic Market Square, has presented nearly two dozen exhibitions featuring more than 600 artists from across the United States, Mexico, Central America and South America over the past decade.
The first event, an Artist & Curator Panel Discussion, is scheduled for Thursday, October 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. The conversation will feature Latina artists Bonnie Ilza Cisneros, Mia Lopez, Kathy Vargas and Guillermina Zabala, who have curated exhibitions at Centro de Artes Gallery during the last decade. Stephanie Torres, the gallery’s program coordinator, will moderate.
On Saturday, November 14, from noon to 5 p.m., visitors can take part in activities including piñata making, printmaking and other crafts. Cupcakes will be available while supplies last. The gallery will remain open until 9 p.m. that evening, giving attendees of the Luminaria Contemporary Arts Festival an opportunity to explore the gallery at night.
Both events are free and do not require registration. The city advises visitors to plan their trip with VIA.
Centro de Artes is currently showing “Mercado/Material,” an exhibit curated by Mia Lopez that offers playful commentary on the evolution of shopping culture across Latinx communities. The exhibit will remain on display through March 7, 2027.
The gallery is open Wednesday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from noon to 5 p.m.
