San Antonio’s Office of Historic Preservation will host a free outdoor screening of Hocus Pocus at Picnic & a Movie in the Eastside Cemeteries on October 10.

San Antonio families can enjoy a free outdoor screening of Hocus Pocus during Picnic & a Movie in the Eastside Cemeteries on Saturday, October 10.

The City of San Antonio Office of Historic Preservation will host the fourth annual event, with gates opening at 6:30 p.m. and the movie beginning at sundown. Guests are invited to bring snacks or dinner for a picnic, along with blankets and lawn chairs.

The event highlights the City’s Cemetery Steward Program and gives visitors an opportunity to explore the Eastside Cemeteries while learning about historic preservation efforts. The program, launched in 2020, celebrates the beauty of the City’s cemeteries, educates the public about the historic sites and supports the restoration and care of these sacred spaces.

Hocus Pocus, the 1993 family Halloween classic, will be the featured film. The screening is designed as a family activity and follows the success of previous Picnic & a Movie gatherings.

One attendee of the first Picnic & a Movie described the experience as a well-organized way to bring back memories of families gathering for picnics in the cemetery.

The Office of Historic Preservation encourages community members to attend the free event, enjoy an evening outdoors and learn more about the ongoing work of the Cemetery Steward Program.
