San Antonio City Councilwoman Misty Spears congratulated Jesse Salame on his appointment as the next chief of the San Antonio Police Department.

Salame has 27 years of service with SAPD and brings extensive experience to the department’s top leadership role, according to the City of San Antonio. Spears highlighted his understanding of modern police department leadership, as well as his focus on clear communication, strong morale and integrity in law enforcement.

Spears also pointed to Salame’s emphasis on holistic officer wellness. She said supporting the physical, mental and overall well-being of the department’s officers is essential to building a strong police department.

“Our officers carry an incredible responsibility every day. When we take care of our officers, they are better equipped to take care of our community,” Spears said.

The District 9 councilwoman also emphasized the importance of having a chief who can communicate with both officers and residents, remain calm under pressure and de-escalate difficult situations while keeping public safety as a priority.

Spears said she is confident those qualities will serve SAPD as Salame takes on the new leadership role. She said his appointment can help strengthen the department and build trust throughout the community.

“I look forward to working with Chief Salame and making sure our officers have the support and resources they need to keep our families and our community safe. Congratulations, Chief Salame, and thank you for your commitment to serving San Antonio,” Spears said.
