Dear Neighbor,
As we conclude budget discussions at City Council, I want to address a topic that has been also part of our conversations: the new Missions stadium.
The stadium is planned for a location near San Pedro Creek Culture Park, making downtown San Antonio its new home. While I am supportive of economic development and growth, it is my priority to ensure this new project brings benefits to our community in meaningful ways.
The Missions have made their case and outlined several community benefits, including:
- Ensuring public amenities are accessible to all
- Launching a youth program that provides a number of free tickets each year to disadvantaged youth
- Establishing the San Antonio 1888 Baseball Foundation – which will contribute at least $200,000 annually to support local initiatives for children and homeless veterans
- Partnering with SAISD to offer internships and facility access
- Committing to paying full-time and part-time employees a minimum wage of $18 per hour
This project, in partnership with Weston Urban, Bexar County, and the City, will not be funded by the City’s general city budget. Instead, it will be financed through funds generated by economic growth, new development, and increased tourism. I want to reassure you that my focus remains on ensuring our current tax dollars are used responsibly to foster sustainable growth for our city.
The Council will vote on the Missions’ plan tomorrow, and I will keep you informed of the outcome. As always, if you have any questions or need assistance, the District 7 team and I are here to help. You can reach us at (210) 207-0870 or email us at district7@sanantonio.gov
