Dear Neighbor,

Last week, the City Council marked an important step in discussions for the proposed Sports and Entertainment District. A majority of Councilmembers voiced support for City Manager Erik Walsh to begin negotiating a term sheet with the San Antonio Spurs, setting the stage for the next phase of this project.

During the meeting, I expressed concerns about delaying the process and reiterated that we are ready to move this agreement to a Council vote before the end of August. The need for urgency is clear– the City must finalize the Term Sheet, which will spell out exactly what the City, Bexar County, and the San Antonio Spurs will each contribute to this deal.

You deserve to know these details before heading to the polls in November so you can make an informed decision when you vote. My priority remains ensuring full transparency every step of the way.

My aim is to secure the best deal possible for San Antonio while strengthening a partnership that has been part of our city’s identity for more than 50 years. The current proposal poses little to no risk to the City. Importantly, the Spurs have agreed to cover any cost overruns on the project– a clear indication of their good faith and long-term commitment to San Antonio.

The Spurs have invested in San Antonio for over five decades, and their brand is deeply woven into our community’s identity. We cannot afford to lose our Spurs.

While this was a significant topic at City Hall last week, it wasn’t the only important conversation happening in our community. My team and I hosted our Utilities Town Hall with CPS Energy, SAWS, and Fiber Providers to address resident concerns about ongoing projects, service coordination, and communication with providers. In this e-newsletter edition, you can find a recap of that event, along with helpful numbers on how to report your concerns to SAWS, CPS Energy, and more. I encourage you to check it out.

As always, my team and I are here for anything you may need. Please don’t hesitate to contact our office at (210) 207-0870 or email us at district7@sanantonio.gov.

Yours in Service,

Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito
San Antonio City Council, District 7
