The San Antonio is making preparations to support residents as the National Weather Service forecasts a sharp drop in temperatures and the potential for precipitation this weekend.
Beginning Saturday, January 24, the City will open six overnight Resilience Hubs, which will remain operational through noon on Monday, January 26, providing a warm and safe place for individuals and families to shelter from the cold.
Overnight Resilience Hubs
Resilience Hubs offer protection from cold weather along with basic supplies, access to electricity, device charging stations, and free Wi-Fi. Separate kennel areas will be available for pets. Visitors are encouraged to bring personal belongings, medications, and appropriate clothing.
The overnight locations include:
- Copernicus Community Center – 5003 Lord Rd.
- Garza Community Center – 1450 Mira Vista
- Miller’s Pond Community Center – 6175 Old Pearsall Rd.
- Normoyle Community Center – 700 Culberson
- Northeast Senior Center – 4135 Thousand Oaks
- Southside Lions Senior Center – 3303 Pecan Valley Dr.
Daytime Warming Locations
In addition to overnight shelters, city libraries, community centers, and senior centers will serve as daytime warming locations during their regular business hours.
Transportation and Accessibility
Free transportation will be available on VIA Metropolitan Transit bus service and VIA Link to and from warming locations. Riders should notify the operator when boarding. Individuals with disabilities who require transportation assistance may call 3-1-1 or 210-207-6000.
Support for Unsheltered Neighbors
The City and its community partners are also expanding outreach efforts and operating temporary overnight shelters. Pets are welcome at all shelter locations. The Community Connections Hotline at 210-207-1799 will operate 24 hours a day beginning Saturday morning, helping connect unsheltered individuals with shelter, transportation, and cold-weather supplies.
Residents are encouraged to limit travel, remain cautious on potentially icy roadways, and stay informed through official City and weather channels. Additional resources, maps, and cold-weather safety tips are available at SA.gov/ColdWeather or by calling 3-1-1.
