Downtown San Antonio will host several Día de los Muertos celebrations from October 23–25, including activities at Historic Market Square, La Villita Historic Arts Village and along the River Walk.
At Historic Market Square, 514 W. Commerce Street, visitors can enjoy traditional art, cultural activities, altars, a marigold giveaway and live music. Las Monas Cultural Dance Procession, featuring dance and storytelling, will take place both days from 1 to 2 p.m. The family-friendly celebration is open to all ages.
Visitors can also explore a self-guided tour of Día de los Muertos ofrendas, or altars, throughout Historic Market Square. The displays honor departed loved ones, celebrate memories and highlight their lives.
The Market Square Farmers Market Association will present the Calaveras de Azucar Festival, featuring altars, live music and local vendors. Organizers invite families and friends to attend the celebration.
At La Villita Historic Arts Village, 418 Villita Street, the Day of the Dead San Antonio River Parade and Festival will feature altar-inspired floats, catrinas and tributes along the River Walk. La Villita will continue the festivities throughout the weekend with live music, food and free family activities.
The celebration will also include a large Calavera Catrina, 20 colorful alebrije spirit animals and 10 giant, hand-painted calaveras displayed throughout the village.
Downtown is expected to be busy during the weekend. Visitors are encouraged to review event details, road closures and parking information before arriving. Event parking rates will apply at city-owned garages and lots.
Día de los Muertos honors loved ones who have passed while celebrating their lives through art, cultural traditions and community gatherings.
