Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts can step back in time and experience the beauty of the Texas Hill Country during the popular Honey Creek Guided Walks at Guadalupe River State Park.
The guided tours provide visitors with rare access to Honey Creek State Natural Area, a protected landscape featuring a spring-fed creek, towering bald cypress trees, native wildlife, and scenic overlooks. Access to the natural area is only available through official guided tours.
Tours are offered most Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and begin outside the Rust House located within Guadalupe River State Park. The approximately two-mile hike is considered moderate in difficulty and includes flat sections, rocky terrain, slopes, and two short but steep hills.
During the 2.5-hour experience, guides share information about the area’s history, geology, plants, and wildlife while leading visitors through one of the region’s most pristine natural environments.
The guided walk is recommended for ages 7 and older. Pets are not permitted on the tours, with the exception of service dogs.
Visitors are encouraged to bring sturdy footwear, water, and sun protection, especially during warmer summer temperatures. Organizers emphasize the importance of staying hydrated and dressing appropriately for outdoor conditions.
Admission to the guided walk is free with park entry. Guadalupe River State Park admission costs $7 for adults, while children ages 12 and under receive free admission.
Officials note that registration is required for all Honey Creek Guided Walks. Interested participants can view tour schedules and register online through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department events page.
