The City of Schertz Parks & Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the fourth year of the Schertz Young Leaders Program, an eight-month leadership development opportunity designed for high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Applications will remain open until Tuesday, September 10, 2025.
The program gives students a unique, hands-on experience in local government and civic engagement. Through a combination of facility tours, leadership sessions, and group projects, participants gain valuable insight into how their city operates while building skills in teamwork, communication, and leadership.
Program Highlights:
- Eligibility: Open to students in grades 10–12 who live in Schertz or attend SCUCISD
- Format: Includes six school-day sessions and a graduation ceremony in May
- Additional Requirements: Attendance at one City Council meeting, one volunteer event, and one SCUCISD Board meeting
- Excused Absence Policy: Students may be allowed one excused absence during the program
Past participants have enjoyed opportunities to meet local leaders, visit key community facilities—including Randolph Air Force Base—and collaborate on meaningful projects that impact the community.
The Schertz Young Leaders Program helps students develop civic responsibility and leadership skills that can serve them well in college, careers, and future community involvement.
